Cat Depot Surgical Center

Size: +/-10,000 sf

Location: Sarasota, FL

Type: New Construction

After the success of the Cat Depot Feline Adoption Center, the founders bought property across the street in order to develop a new state of the art surgical center for the community. With the intent of providing veterinarian services for people in need and families with feline pets, this new center includes a large waiting room with a kitten area for adoption display, multiple exam rooms, a feral cat drop off and a sophisticated surgical center.

With the main lobby facing due south, the sun shade device of perforated metal panels act as an architectural feature while warding off the hot Florida sun. It also creates an interesting pattern of light and shadow. Infused into the screening are silhouettes of cats playing and frolicking to present a level of fun and invite patrons to use the building’s facilities.

The entry feature, an elongated wood canopy, evokes the way felines arch their backs in the popular "cat-pose" stretch.

In addition to this building, the master plan includes other needed structures on the property: an education center, more adoption space and a memory garden

"You should all be very proud. I know I am. Thank you all for everything you have done to help homeless cats."

–Shelley Thayer, previous executive director of Cat Depot
